Castle Howard in York

Castle Howard's Restoration

Constantine Scotland is proud to share our involvement in the recent Castle Howard’s 21st Century Renaissance. A historic undertaking to rejuvenate the Castle Howard estate for years to come and the recent winner of the Historic Houses Restoration Award 2025.

Castle Howard is a grand house situated 15 miles north east of York in a large estate of around 8800 acres in size. Construction of the building began over 300 years ago in 1699 for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle. In 1940, it suffered a damaging fire which left nearly a third of the building open to the skies.

Since then, there have been ongoing projects to restore this remarkable building.  In this latest project, the 21st Century Renaissance, they have restored the Tapestry Drawing Room for the first time since the fire.

With the house being a treasure trove of artworks, our team was involved in reinstalling the majority of the works around the building. The successful completion of the project is a testament to Constantine Scotland’s years of experience with historic homes and fine art installations. The large scale installation of historic paintings, sculptures and busts at Castle Howard was completed with the utmost care and precision.
